I was incredibly excited when I heard that Naomi ‘Nims’ and Gideon Zavackas were opening a new cafe, and even more excited to hear it’s on my side of the river, at Greenslopes – yay!
Brisbane breakfast lovers will probably know Nims and Gideon from popular Milton eatery Comfort at My Table. Their new establishment, The Jam Pantry, has the same feel, just on a smaller scale.
I had a fairly basic breakfast – poached eggs on sourdough toast, with a side of bacon, side of avo, and served with a divine slow roasted Roma tomato. My fave. I ate every morsel. Let’s just say I didn’t need lunch (the original presentation was far prettier before I dumped the bacon and avo on the plate).
My breakfast date had the open omelette with smoked salmon, basil, sweetcorn and parmesan. It was very generous!
There is a small regular menu, with additional specials written up on a giant chalkboard. My breakfast date reeled off the list she had tried (today was her fifth visit in the three weeks they have been open!!) and I will definitely be back to try a few.
While I thoroughly enjoyed the food (and the coffee), I particularly loved the homey and comfy feel that enveloped me as soon as I walked in. Little touches from the giant wall clock, to the teapot and flowers by the coffee machine. Nims’ wall of jams and preserves tempted me and I was told I must try the banana chutney (not a big fan of banana anything, I passed on that). I’ll save that for another visit.
My favourite part was the separate room with the stunning floral wallpaper. Apparently it’s the most instagrammed part of the cafe. No surprises there.

Disclaimer: I wrote this opinion (not a review!) because I wanted to, because I love supporting small business, and because Nims cooks awesome food and Gideon made me a great coffee (thank you!). And their staff were friendly and made me smile. And mostly because the hospitality game is ridiculously hard and anyone who opens a business in that field deserves all the help and support they can get. Because they are clearly all crazy. 🙂

Totally agree Mel. So lucky to have Nims and Gideon open their wonderful friendly cafe in Greenslopes! Fresh delicious food and welcoming service. You are right – the decor is perfect – including the snazzy not-so-shy ‘wallflowers’. Love your comment about hardworking cafe owners and chefs being crazy – I find it a struggle some days cooking for the family – and that’s for people I love! Looking forward to next visit to The Jam Pantry and can’t wait to see what else Nims has added to the Temptation Board.
