I came really close to not writing this tonight. It’s been a long day – lots of good stuff, a bit of crap stuff, and over 15,000 steps thanks to two walks of nearly an hour each – and I’m knackered! But then I looked at the photo I wanted to share, and decided it’s too pretty to relegate to the scrap heap.
I see these trees every day on my walk around my neighbourhood and every time I think to myself what pretty flowers they have. Especially at this time of the year when they are in full pink bloom.
If you follow me on instagram (@melkettle) you will know that most of the flowers blooming around us right now are pink. So many gorgeous varieties. All in different shades.
Anyway, this evening, my walking buddy Sherryl immediately said “oh those crepe myrtle are beautiful”, and I was captivated. I instantly flashed back to a memory of mum telling me how she loved the crepe myrtles growing around her home in Western Sydney when she was a child.
Weirdly (or not) my vision of what they were was nothing like the reality. My vision was an ugly looking plant that definitely didn’t have pretty pink flowers!
I don’t recall mum ever commenting on them near my home in Brisbane, probably as they flower in full summer and she avoided visiting between November and March! And after this week of revolting humidity, I can’t blame her!
What are your favourite flowers in bloom right now? And are they also pink?
P.S. I really didn’t do them justice with my iphone camera – will have to go back out tomorrow with my proper one!

Gorgeous. They’re out everywhere in Sydney too. It makes it easier to do your steps when there’s something nice to look at 🙂
