OK I have a secret to share. My super secret guilty foodie pleasure is Kraft cheddar flavoured cream cheese spread. Yep. A total frankenfood. You know the stuff. It’s that fake yellow colour, full of sodium and presumably many other nasties (I’ve deliberately never looked at the nutritional label…).
It’s particularly divine on nachos. With loads of corn chips (plain only thanks), some meaty chilli and cheddar cheese. Yep. More cheese.
It’s also good just blobbed all over plain corn chips, then zapped in the microwave until it’s all melty and gooey. It is definitely a good thing we no longer have a microwave.
This got me thinking about my other guilty foodie pleasures. Don’t judge me.
- Pretty much any form of plastic cheese. Yes, this was never in our kitchen when I was a child. I also love brie, camembert, blue cheese, cheddar, goats cheese and all the others. At any given time there are usually ten different cheeses in the fridge. Rarely is there plastic cheese.
- McDonalds chips. The thinner and saltier the better. Also, very, very rarely eaten as a child. Actually, I just love hot chips. As long as they are crunchy on the outside and don’t have any nasty chicken salt. That stuff is evil.
- BBQ chicken sandwiches on super squishy white bread slathered with whole egg mayo (store bought). Sadly the bread now gives me horrible stomach cramps, and it’s just not the same on sourdough. But every now and then it’s totally worth it.
- Potato scallops. The greasier the better.
- Crumbed fish. Crumbed schnitzel. Errr crumbed anything!
- Blue cheese salad dressing.
- Deep fried cocktail party food. Especially those little samosas. Mmmmm.
- Heinz tomato sauce. Other brands just aren’t the same.
- Cheezels – or whatever the Woolies Home Brand version is called. Has to be the Home Brand. They are cheesier. In every way! And yes, they make me go completely loopy due to all the preservatives.
What are your secret guilty foodie pleasures??
P.S. Thanks to Veggie Mama for inspiring this post when she ‘fessed up her favourite secret junk foods last year.

Snap on all of the above plus fake crab sticks- crumbed of course, any maccas, KFC orig with chips and coleslaw, whoppers, hot chip sandwiches on fresh white bread slathered with Heinz tomato sauce and butter, BBQ chips on white bread with butter, twisties, nutrigrain, Kellogg’s cornflakes with golden syrup and milk… The list goes on and on. Thankfully, I rarely ingest any of the above, but when I do, I enjoy every blissful second!

I lol’d at the cheese spread. I take that and add some of the liquid from a jar of jalapenos and that’s what I use for my corn chips. John calls it plastic food. Sometimes I just need it. A fluffernutter. Just saying it makes me weak in the knees. A bowl of Cheerios with buttered toast and a glass of chocolate milk. (I have NO idea why)
Mel Kettle says
that is a BRILLIANT idea Maureen! Love jalapenos 🙂

well, my son in law did give me a lot of grief when I ordered ranch dressing for a salad when we were out. I would never have it at home, but with certain salads it’s pretty good. But that’s sort of it. cheddar flavored cream cheese? never heard of it!

I’m never to be trusted around a bag of Smiths potato chips and very rarely I pair them with home-made french onion dip – you know, the one with a packet of french onion soup and some Philly. I wait until no-one is home, then eat it all myself.
I also have a serious problem with what used to be Red Tulip After Dinner Mints. This has been tragically solved for me by the removal of them from the Australian market, so I’m often to be found in the candy section of international airports hunting them down.

Tim tam bong! With the double coated tim tams because a) they hold together better and b) DOUBLE COATED = MORE CHOCOLATE. And KFC popcorn chicken, though it’s so full of sodium I can feel my mouth burning. Totally worth it!
