I’m really not coping with this Brisbane summer. It seems so much more revoltingly humid than any of the past 14 summers I have lived here.
Maybe it’s climate change. Maybe I have just forgotten how revolting the humidity has been in past years. Maybe it’s because I think I’ve started the less-than-fabulous life phase of peri-menopause. Hot flush anyone?
Whatever it is, I’m surviving on lots of cold drinks, lying on the couch under the fan (usually with a trashy novel in my hand and the cricket on the tv), far too much use of the aircon (especially on work days), and cold showers. Lots of cold showers.
So you can imagine my displeasure when this afternoon’s cold shower was hot. Not cool, not lukewarm, but hot. And I didn’t even touch the hot water tap. Sigh. Even our water pipes are conspiring against me getting cool.
Maybe it’s time to switch on that aircon again. Or buy an ice vest.
How do you cope with the heat?

No you’re right, it’s a lot more humid and hot this year. I’ve used the air con a LOT. I cool down with cool showers too! Or lying underneath a ceiling fan on high 🙂

You aren’t alone in this one – this is certainly the most humid summer for many years! I think this is more like the summers of years ago – hot, humid days with lots of rain making things even more muggy. It’s just that we haven’t had a typical Qld summer in so long that we have forgotten what it’s like. Ice cold soda water works for me.

The heat wave seems to be particularly bad in Aus this year. I ran a bubble bath – cold water only, put on the jets and pretended I had a fancy pool 🙂

isn’t it shocking this summer with the heat and humidity? you are right it is definitely worse this summer than other years. in fact it is like summers years ago but without the cooling storms each evening. what is going on? yep cold showers and air con are the bomb.

The beach and the pool. (Thank god we moved to the Gold Coast!) And the fans on full bore, and cold drinks and sticking my head under the shower. And a bit of swearing.
