It was my birthday last week, and I spent a good part of it with my lovely friend Danica, cooking up a storm.
I made a few dishes, all with an African flavour, and Danica was chief taster. She was also busy taking photos and some very dodgy video that we thought we might use to help promote the 2017 Gourmet Trails South Africa food tour that I will be hosting.
The jury is still out on whether we will use the video, but some of the photos are a hoot! Mostly I’m just pleased not to look another year older.
I’m really excited about this trip.
We will be visiting some of South Africa’s finest foodie locations, including its two gastronomic centres – cosmopolitan Cape Town and breathtakingly beautiful Franschhoek in the Winelands. The final few days will be a safari.
Danica has put together a fantastic 11-night itinerary, and has spent many, many hours researching the best South Africa has to offer in terms of food. It would have been a tough gig!
We will visit, and get behind the counters of, specialty gourmet stores, organic butchers, dessert shops, wineries, cheese factories, working farms, cooking schools, vegetable distribution points and more.
The accommodation includes boutique hotels and owner run B&Bs.
The whole tour is all about the food. I’m salivating just thinking about it!
AND yes, there’s more! No, not steak knives!
If you want to explore Johannesburg or explore the West Coast, there are a couple of add-on trips too.
For all the details including price, the itinerary and how to book, visit the Encompass Africa website.
I’d love you to join me!
P.S. I cooked Bobotie, Berbere Chicken and a beef stew. Recipes to come!
